What is Catchball?

Catchball is a women's team sport quite similar to volleyball, but more accessible—players catch the ball instead of hitting it

It requires fewer skills and less physical demand than volleyball, making it safe and welcoming for women with different fitness levels.

The game is played 6 vs 6 on a volleyball court using a volleyball. Players catch and pass the ball, trying to land it in the opposing team’s court. Each team can have a maximum of three contacts with the ball, and players cannot bounce it. There are also limits on the number of steps a player can take and the time they can hold the ball.

Catchball is easy to learn, so new players are able to enjoy the game very quickly. More experienced players help support newcomers, creating a light, friendly, and fun atmosphere on court.

It’s a great game for players whose age, skill level, or life commitments may prevent them from participating in other more competitive team sports. Everyone can engage at their own pace.

Catchball also has a strong social focus, with teams often getting together for fun events. It’s a wonderful opportunity to exercise and make friends in a positive, inclusive environment.
